Colposcopy
A colposcopy is basically a speculum exaination, with magnification to allow clearer viewing of the cervix. It is generally done to further evaluate suspicious findings on a pap smear or speculum examination. If something suspicious is found during the colposcopy, a cervical biopsy may be performed.
A colposcopy, like an ordinary speculum examination, is performed entirely within the vaginal canal, not the uterus. Therefore, this procedure does not render a woman niddah.
