No period six days after last pill

29 October, 2012

Question:

Hi, I have been on the pill since I was a teenager for medical reasons. I recently got married, and I use as a veset the interval between cessation of active pills and the onset of my period.

The earliest I have gotten my period is four days from the last active pill. But my period comes at different times, sometimes even a week or more after the last pill.

We are now nearly onto day six since the last active pill, and I am continuing to observe a veset, doing a daily bedikah and abstaining. Are we supposed to maintain a continuous veset until my period starts? Or can we stop after three days and resume relations? My body doesn't feel that my period is imminent, usually I have an inkling.

Answer:

Yes, in this case, after waiting a full three days beginning with day four from the last active pill, you may resume relations.  No further measures are necessary this cycle.  It is quite possible that you will not begin to bleed this cycle or only have light staining.

You may find it useful to review our site's section on the laws of stains
