Mikveh after transgression
Unfortunately my husband and I had intercourse while I was having my period (the night before day 5 of period). Should I forget about going to the Mikveh this month?
In general I am having major problems with going to the Mikveh. Since I was 15, my period has lasted 7 days, and my first clean day is day 9 because I can only get a clean check on day 8. Not only that, half the time my mikveh night is Friday night and we have no local mikveh. In addition, my cycle lasts between 24-28 days. Every month is a trial for us.
Dear questioner,
Thank you for your question.
If you had marital relations during your period, the correct procedure is to begin the five-day minimum again. After that five-day period is over, then you begin the seven clean days and you do use the mikveh.
You do not mention your age or how many children you have. However, if you have children and are not trying to get pregnant at the moment, it is possible to hormonally manipulate your cycle to allow you to have fewer days as a niddah. Perhaps doing this for a few months would allow you to "strengthen up" and assist with proper keeping of taharat hamishpacha.
