“Period” while pregnant

27 January, 2009

Question:

I had what I thought was my period but I wasn't convinced because I felt pregnant. Turns out, b"h I am pregnant but I still had bleeding almost exactly like a period. I still kept niddah. I presume I still have to go to the mikveh but wanted to make sure all the same rules apply even though technically I am pregnant.

Answer:

Yes, even when a woman is pregnant, uterine bleeding makes her niddah.  Therefore, even though your bleeding was not a period, you became a niddah and the usual rules of becoming tehorah apply.  In this case, you may omit the moch dachuk because it could cause irritation.

We recommend a review of our site's article on the laws of stains to help avoid becoming niddah unnecessarily over the duration of your pregnancy.

B'Sha'ah Tovah!
