Halachic infertility with 30-day cycle

30 November, 2011

Question:

I wanted to share my own experience with halachic infertility in case it can help anyone else out there.

I got remarried at age 36, my husband has only one child so we decided to try for another one together. After six months without success I saw my ob/gyn and then transferred my care to a reproductive endocrinologist.

The ob/gyn actually told me I wasn’t ovulating, because she did blood tests around day 14 since I had a 30 day cycle. The reproductive endocrinologist did daily sonograms which showed I was ovulating – on day 10 – in a 30 day cycle. I got pregnant after using an estrogen patch to delay ovulation. (You leave the patch on for an extra 3 days after it stops working to prevent bleeding.)

Answer:

Thank you for sharing your experience with us. It is indeed an important reminder that ovulating before immersion can affect women with longer/”normal” cycles as well. Thorough testing can play a crucial in determining why a couple is not successfully conceiving.

We wish you much hatzlacha!
