Eyelash extensions

I am thinking about getting eyelash extensions. These are semi permanent lashes applied with a stronger adhesive than temporary lashes. Generally, a single lash is applied to each natural lash; the bond is designed to last until the lashes naturally falls out on its own. The lashes generally last about two months.

Before I consider it further I would like to know if this would be considered a chatzitzah for mikveh purposes.

Thank you for your question.

In order for the eyelash extensions to be acceptable for immersion, they would have to be well maintained and look complete without any noticeable gaps or missing lashes. Based on our understanding, since natural lash cycles are irregular and can last anywhere from 30-90 days, and the extensions fall out along with the natural lash, this can be difficult to accomplish. As such, we advise against having eyelash extensions applied unless you are committed to having them regularly maintained and filled in every month prior to immersion. 

In a case where there is a great need for extensions (such as for someone who suffers from hair loss due to illness or disease), one could immerse with them as they would be professionally maintained shortly prior to each immersion.
