Different approaches to chazakah

15 March, 2007

Question:

I've heard conflicting things about performing bedikot after the first three times a couple has intercourse. Can you please explain the different approaches?

Answer:

Please see our article on this topic, Establishing a Chazakah, and our posted question on the topic.

One additional point that does not appear in the article is that R Moshe Feinstein was among the authorities who followed the approach that bedikot are not required unless blood has already been found subsequent to relations.  Many Americans follow his rulings, and this is why many American brides are not taught this halacha.
