Saw blood exiting body

12 April, 2016

Question:

I have been spotting for the past week, but I haven't gotten my period yet. I took a pregnancy test today, and in the stream of urine I saw blood and a blood clot. I still don't have a flow. Am I niddah now?

Answer:

Unfortunately, seeing blood exit your body does render you niddah. You need to wait five days before counting the seven clean days. If you get your period during the five day waiting period, you do not need to restart the five days. You may perform a hefsek taharah as soon as the bleeding ends, as long as five days have passed since you initially became niddah from the blood you saw while urinating.
