Avoidance of Touch

A couple may not touch each other during the time the wife is niddah. Furthermore, there are additional prohibitions to prevent even the possibility of touching. One of these is passing objects from hand to hand. As an extension of this, throwing objects on a straight line directly from one to the other is prohibited for Ashkenazim. Throwing a ball on a trajectory (volleyball) or bounced (ping pong, indoor squash) would be permitted, however. Sephardim permit throwing even directly.
