The Challenge of Taharat Hamishpacha

Keeping the laws of niddah can be wonderful, meaningful, rewarding, and fulfilling. Many women treasure the experience of immersion in the mikveh, and eagerly anticipate the monthly renewal of the marriage relationship. Nevertheless, frustrating, stressful, or inconvenient situations can arise in the context of these laws. Newlyweds, and others accepting this observance for the first time, must master complex halachot while controlling intense feelings which are natural and positive. Some women face long separations after childbirth or for medical reasons. Every couple that keeps this mitzvah will be challenged at some stage.

In this section, we try to provide resources and suggestions to alleviate some of the challenges. If we haven't addressed your questions or concerns, please feel free to ask us online, or call Nishmat's Golda Koschitzky Women's Halachic Hotline to speak directly with a yoetzet.
