Tipping mikveh lady

Question:

I was reading a book (On Women and Judaism by Blu Greenberg) and it mentions tipping the mikveh lady – I had never heard this before, but I know the mikveh ladies at the mikveh I use are volunteers. Should I be tipping them? If so what is a recommended amount?


Answer:

This practice varies from community to community.  You can check with other local women about their practices or ask the mikveh lady directly.  She may express a preference for a donation towards the upkeep of the mikveh.
