Flow after hefsek

27 August, 2006

Question:

I had a clean hefsek (day 5) on Saturday, before Shabbos was over. But then I started bleeding (there was actual undisputed flow) late Saturday night through Sunday night (even post shekiah.) so I didn't even attempt a bedikah. So what's my procedure now?

Do I need a new hefsek? Do I do a new hefsek Monday, and if that's good, and my next 7 days of bedikot are good, I can go to the mikvah Monday night?

Answer:

Your blood flow invalidated your first hefsek taharah.  On the afternoon of the day on which it stops, you can perform a new hefsek taharah.  If that is Monday, you will make a new hefsek taharah before shekiah and, if all goes well, immerse Monday night seven days later.
