Can I go to mikveh if I don’t get my period?

10 November, 2015

Question:

I am using the Mirena IUD and as a result I have not gotten my period for several months? Can I still go to the Mikveh?

Answer:

There is no obligation to go to the mikveh if you are not experiencing uterine bleeding. If you would like to go to the mikveh for spiritual/personal/emotional reasons despite being tehorah, you may do so. You need not prepare for mikveh in the usual manner, and you should not recite a bracha upon immersion. We recommend letting the mikveh lady know that you are not immersing out of obligation.
