Gynecological exam post menopause

29 June, 2016

Question:

I am 62 years old and haven't gotten my period for 10 years. I went to a gynecologist today to determine if I had Lichen Sclerosis. He used a speculum and also used his fingers. He did not open the cervix, nor am I bleeding.

Should I assume that I am in niddah or not?

Answer:

A speculum and manual examination such as you described does not make a woman niddah. Based on what you write, you are not in niddah.

We wish you good health!  Please write back with any further questions.
