Menstrual cup

1 February, 2004

Question:

Recently I began using a "menstrual cup" which collects the blood in one place (www.thekeeper.com), and it seems disrespectful to put blood and uterine tissue down the toilet or down the sink drain. Is there any issur involved here?

Incidentally, in case this information is useful for you: I have noticed that it has shortened the time during which I bleed by a day or two, I imagine because it does create some suction and so probably speeds up the process. This information might be helpful for women whose periods are long.

Answer:

There is no prohibition in discarding menstrual discharge. It is meant to be shed by the body and thus there is no disrespect in disposing of it.
