If you prepare at home, do you have to shower again at the mikveh?

7 June, 2023

Question:

If you prepare for the mikvah at home, do you have to shower again at the mikvah before you actually dip? Thanks!

Answer:

Thank you for reaching out to us.

At the mikveh, it is important to inspect yourself one last time prior to immersion, including making sure that your hair hasn’t become knotted.

It is customary to immerse when your hair is still wet following preparation.

Many women shower at the mikveh, both to wet the hair and to rinse off anything that might have gotten on the body between preparations and immersion.

If your hair is still wet from recent preparations at home, then there is no requirement to shower at the mikveh.
