Thank you for reaching out to us.
Irregular staining is fairly common over the first months of IUD use, especially with a hormone-secreting system.
Unfortunately, there is no guaranteed method to ensure that staining will abate before the wedding. It is usually to a kallah’s advantage to place an IUD longer in advance of a wedding.
We suggest that the kallah see her physician to confirm positioning, string length, etc. They can also discuss whether it would be viable to use progesterone for a couple of weeks and then stop it a few weeks before the wedding in an attempt to reduce staining.
Sometimes, taking bioflavonoids and vitamin B1 can reduce the incidence of staining on an IUD, and this possibility can also be raised with her physician.
Halachically, it will be important to review the laws of stains with her (as by sharing our pages on stains and toilet paper) and to discuss the importance of cleaning for a hefsek taharah and of asking halachic questions in any case of doubt.
Please don’t hesitate to follow up with us, and please be in touch with an update a few weeks before the wedding, so we can discuss the best course of action for the clean days based on how the situation develops.
