Nail hardener a chatzitzah?
December 3, 2008

Question

I am thinking of using nail hardener as I have very weak nails that break and split all the time. As far as I understand it, at first the hardener is put on for one day, cleaned off and reapplied. Then gradually the time between applications is lengthened. Obviously some of the hardener is absorbed into the nail. If I clean off the hardener before immersion, would any hardener previously absorbed into the nails be counted as a barrier?

Answer

Any nail hardener that has been absorbed into your nails will not be a barrier. You must take care to remove any nail hardener that is on the surface of the nail before immersing.
