Can I drink wine my husband accidentally passed to me?
October 11, 2012

Question

Hi, and thank you for this site.

I was niddah over Sukkot, and we were visiting family, so the meals were a bit chaotic. There were a few times that my husband forgot and handed me a cup of wine or grape juice from kiddush. I was wondering whether, if this happens, there is any advantage to my not drinking the grape juice (i.e. pretending to drink it, or passing it to someone else even though he clearly intended it for me). Or is it the case that once he has designated a cup of grape juice for me, the mistake has been made and it doesn't matter whether I drink from it or not?

Answer

You should not drink the wine or grape juice that your husband designated for you. You should pass it along to others or pretend to drink it.
