Question

Is it ok to say "I love you" towards the end of a phone conversation with my husband while I am niddah?

Answer

Although this question has generated some debate, saying "I love you" is generally permitted while in niddah, so long as it is said more in an affectionate manner rather than a sexually suggestive tone. Said as a telephone signoff, as you describe, "I love you" would be permitted.

It is appropriate and recommended to continue communicating in a loving manner while the couple is physically off-limits during niddah. While the couple should be careful to avoid language or behavior that may lead to physical intimacy, they should also be careful to preserve and cultivate their emotional intimacy.
