Singing while niddah
February 14, 2003

Question

Is a woman allowed to sing in front of her husband when she is niddah?

Answer

A woman’s singing is halachically usually considered to be provocative. Therefore, a wife should not deliberately sing to her husband while she is niddah. As for singing for her own pleasure while her husband is home, some authorities are more stringent than others. There is more room for leniency when she is singing to put a child to sleep or when she is singing with a group, as with zemirot at the Shabbat table.
