Became niddah four minutes after sunset
October 22, 2025

Question

I felt cramping today and noticed some spotting, but I only knew I was a niddah for sure at 5:27 pm on Monday evening. I realize now that shkiah in my area is 5:23 pm. Does this mean my first day is Tuesday even though I missed shkiah by 4 minutes?

Answer

If you were uncertain of your niddah status prior to shekiah (sunset), then you may count Monday as the first day of the minimum wait. But if, until 5:27, you were confident you were not in niddah, then Monday would not count. (In extenuating circumstances, there may be room for leniency. Please write back with details if you think this may be relevant.)
