How much should I comb my hair?
February 8, 2015

Question

I have wavy hair, and pretty much every time I comb it, hair comes out on the comb. This even happens when I am able to run the comb through the hair without hitting any knots.

When I go to the mikvah, do I need to keep combing until no hair comes out on the comb, or can I stop after there are no more knots? Currently, I try my best to keep going until there is no hair on the comb, but this is often quite time consuming, and I don't want to do it unless it is necessary.

Thank you for your help.

Answer

It is not necessary to comb your hair until you no longer see hairs on the comb. You should just brush/comb your hair to remove any knots. While you should try to remove any visible or noticeable loose hairs from your back/body, any loose hairs that remain are not considered a chatzitzah.
