Light brown on veset bedikah
June 25, 2026

Question

If I find brown on a bedika cloth during an onah, does it make me a niddah? This is the light brown that comes right before the period.

Answer

Thank you for reaching out to us.

Discharge of a niddah color on a bedikah that you performed during an onah would make you niddah.

However, a light brown with no hint of a reddish tint (e.g., the color of coffee with milk or lighter) is not a niddah color and does not make a woman niddah under any circumstances. If the color you see fits this descripton, you would not be in niddah from these bedikot. If you are unsure whether the brown has a reddish tint, you should bring the bedikah for evaluation by a halachic authority.

If you consistently experience this type of staining within a day of the beginning of your blood flow, that might have significance for calculating vesatot. Please let us know if that is the case, with more details about what you see and how you see it..
