Does Clomid need rabbinic permission?
01/06/2022

Question

Do I need to ask a rabbi for permission to take clomid? The fertility treatments do not involve any treatment of my husband or sperm collection or other use of sperm outside the body (no iui, ivf, etc). Just hormonal treatment for me, the woman. Our fertility specialist is ready to start me on clomid again in a few weeks upon completion of some health screenings. If relevant, we have not yet fulfilled the mitzvah of pru urvu, we have just one child. Thank you!

Answer

Thank you for reaching out to us.
You do not need to seek rabbinic permission to take Clomid when recommended by your physician as part of fertility treatment.
We wish you success with your treatments. You may find it helpful to arrange a free consultation with a Yoetzet Halacha Fertility Counselor, details here.
