Question

Regarding the bedikot which have to be done at the end of the onot – do they have to be done still during the "daytime" (before sunset) or can they be done "at night" and checked that night in fluorescent light?
If they were not checked before night time, does one have to wait for the next AM? Thanks.

Answer

There is a range of opinions on how many bedikot should be performed on each onah and when. When there is a daytime onah, and a woman customarily performs a bedikah at the end of the onah, it is preferable to perform it prior to sunset. However, if she has already performed at least one bedikah during the onah and performs the "end of the onah" bedikah after nightfall, that is acceptable.

In either case, she may make an initial evaluation of the bedikah whenever it is performed. If it is clear that there is no stain on the cloth, she may discard it. If there is any question, the cloth should be evaluated with care the next morning in natural light.

If a woman inadvertently omits her bedikot on her onot perishah, she need not make up for them later. The exceptions are the onah beinonit or a veset kavua. If no bedikot were performed on these onot, relations may not resume until a bedikah has been performed.
