Incidental contact while niddah
December 22, 2004

Question

Regarding the requirement to avoid touching when nidah. When my wife and I walk together, there is sometimes some slight incidental accidental contact. Similarly, when we sit together at our small table, it may happen that our knees brush as we take our seats. Should we be walking further apart or sitting at opposite sides of our table?

Answer

Yes. Accidental incidental contact ceases to be accidental when it happens regularly. You don't necessarily have to walk far apart or sit on opposite ends of the table, but you do have to walk and sit far enough apart to ensure that any contact will be very rare.
