Mikveh before frozen embryo transfer
February 9, 2025

Question

My husband and I won't be in the same location when I'm due to go to the Mikvah, in fact we probably won't see one another until after I've started menstruating again. However, during this time I may be doing a frozen embryo transfer. Should I go to the mikvah when I'm done with the 7 clean days?

Answer

Thank you for reaching out to us. We hope the embryo transfer will be successful.

We recommend that you go to the mikveh when you have finished the seven clean days. Sometimes plans change suddenly and unexpectedly, and going to the mikveh on time will allow you to be with your husband should you be able to see each other on short notice. Additionally, while it is permissible if necessary to do an embryo transfer while in a state of niddah, it is still preferable to not be niddah during the transfer if possible.

We hope this helps. Please write back with any further questions. You may also want to consult with Yoatzot Halacha Fertililty Counselors, who offer free consultations for women and couples experiencing fertility challenges.
