Niddah from bleeding after ectopic pregnancy?
February 12, 2009

Question

I had laparoscopic surgery to remove an ectopic pregnancy. For a week I had bleeding, like a period. Most likely related to the hormone changes after the pregnancy ended because the surgery was not in the uterus, just the fallopian tube. I presume I follow the same laws as with menstruation, is this correct?

Answer

We are sorry to hear of your loss.

Yes, you are correct. An ectopic pregnancy involves the building up and subsequent shedding of the uterine lining, even if the fetus was implanted elsewhere. Therefore, the bleeding you are experiencing does in fact make you niddah.
