Niddah when C-section

Question

I am having a planned c-section in a few weeks. At precisely what point should I consider myself a nidda? I cannot verify bleeding for myself until at least 24 hours after since that is when they allow me to stand up, but I am certain that the bleeding starts at some point before this.

Answer

A woman undergoing a planned cesarean section is considered a niddah from when she begins to bleed vaginally. Standard procedure with a c-section is to open the mucus plug to allow exit of the blood through the cervix and vagina. So you will be considered niddah from right after the birth of the baby.
