Optimal time for afternoon bedikah during clean days
March 17, 2013

Question

I previously asked a question as to the earliest time I can do an afternoon bedikah and I was told this is the time of mincha ketanah. Are you allowed to do bedikot every day at the time of mincha ketanah if you wish to do so, or is this a leniency that should only be used if you really have to do the bedikah earlier in the day?

Answer

Anytime from the beginning of minchah ketanah, two and a half proportional hours prior to sunset, is fully acceptable for performing the afternoon bedikah, lechatchilah. It is, however, seen as praiseworthy to perform the afternoon bedikah just before sunset. That is wonderful when possible, but performing it at mincha ketanah every day is fully acceptable and is not a matter of special leniency
