Root canal and mikveh
April 8, 2024

Question

I will be going for a root canal today but it's the first of 4 appointments. I know I will have to go to the mikvah at some point in the process. Will this be considered a chatzitza?

Answer

At certain points in the process of a root canal, temporary fillings and/or crowns are often used. You may immerse with a temporary filling or temporary crown as long as they are well-placed, comfortable, and will not be permanently replaced for at least seven days following immersion.

If you are unable to schedule your appointments accordingly, then you may immerse with the temporary filling and/or temporary crown, if they theoretically are sturdy enough to remain comfortably in place for more than seven days.

Please feel free to get back to us with any further questions.
