Semen allergy?
March 31, 2021

Question

I’ve been married more than 6 years, have gone through 25+ rounds of IVF and other infertility treatments, all as a result of diagnosed unexplained infertility, all to no result. Each of my infertility specialists and my regular OBGYN’s that I have gone to have suspected I might be allergic to my husband’s semen but they do not seem to know who/what the next step is in diagnosing. Does Nishmat have advice for this?

Answer

We are sorry to hear of your difficulty conceiving with repeated IVF.

An allergist can typically diagnose semen allergy through a skin test. It would be permissible to collect your husband’s sperm for this purpose, much as it is collected for IVF. Sometimes, a semen allergy leads to redness or irritation right after relations. If this is the case, please get back to us with details.

Nishmat offers a free consultation service on fertility questions, which you might find helpful, details here.

Please let us know if we can be of further assistance.
