Separate beds during onot perishah?
January 17, 2006

Question

I'm just married, and I have a question about separating beds on the Onot Perishah.
My question is, if we can hug and kiss, but we can't have intercourse, do we have to separate beds on those days?
I'm confused, because now I'm in my onah beinonit, and I already passed the yom hachodesh, and I'm ok, I didn't get my period yet. So I'm not sure if I have to separate and then join the beds again, or not.

Answer

The basic halachic requirement during the onot perishah is not to engage in marital relations, although it is advisable to refrain from intimate physical contact and sleep in different beds. However, the beds do not have to be positioned apart as they would be during niddah.
