Small scabs a chatzitizah?
June 11, 2013

Question

Is a small scab from a popped pimple considered a chatzitza? I know if the skin is healed underneath then it would be a chatzitza, but how can I be sure without pulling it off?

In general the skin is completely healed once the scab falls off…so shouldn't that mean scabs are ok?

Answer

Scabs should be softened prior to immersion by soaking them in warm water during the chafifah. If you are able to remove the scab after soaking it without causing pain or discomfort, it should be gently peeled off. If the scab is still firmly attached and won't come off without causing discomfort, it may remain and is not considered a chatzitzah.
