Small spots on bedikot
July 14, 2004

Question

I would like to know what is considered spotting during the seven clean days.
Is slight pink or a dot of red on the cloth considered a spotting which will make the clean day invalid?

Answer

Spots on bedikah cloths have more stringent rules than those on clothing or other surfaces (see article on stains for further details). Any size spot on a bedikah cloth can invalidate the seven clean days (or, if you are tehorah, make you niddah), depending on its color. If you are not sure whether the color is really red, then you should show the cloth to a halachic authority.
