Temporary fillings, mikveh next week
June 5, 2006

Question

I went to the dentist today and also did a hefsek taharah. The dentist put temporary fillings in two teeth. One will be removed in nine days (on day 2 after mikveh b”h), the other one in 16 days (on day 9 after mikveh b”h).

I am on fertility treatment and it would be terrible to delay mikveh due to temporary fillings. What can I do?

Answer

We appreciate the sensitive nature of this question.

We follow the view that a woman may immerse with a filling scheduled for replacement seven or more days following immersion.

That means that the filling scheduled to be removed two days after mikveh creates a halachic issue, and it would be preferable for you to reschedule that appointment for at least five days later. Given the fertility concerns, if the appointment cannot be postponed, then you may immerse with the filling, so long as it fits well and could theoretically stay in for longer.
