Unsure whether period began before sunrise (veset kavua)
May 8, 2024

Question

I have a veset kavua for the Hebrew date that has been unbroken for over two years, and it is always daytime. Today was my veset.

I always get up early in the morning, much before dawn, so I don't do the bedikah straight away. As I was folding laundry, I felt my period begin, so I went to the bathroom, wiped myself and put menstrual cup in. Only then I checked the time, and it was exactly five minutes after hanetz. I didnt check the time before that, and I can't really estimate how long I took in the bathroom. Less than ten minutes. I certainly felt the "flow" begin.

Would this count as a night or day onah? If night, does it affect the veset kavua in any way?

Thanks very much!

Answer

Thank you for reaching out to us.

In this case, we would treat what you saw as a daytime onah. This is because you have a veset kavua for the daytime and certainly saw in the daytime, whereas it is not clear if you had bleeding beforehand.

We follow the view that a sensation of a liquid flowing outside the body is not considered a hargashah.

We hope this helps. Please let us know if we can be of further assistance.
