Waxed dental floss to prepare for mikveh?
September 8, 2006

Question

When I went to the Mikveh I noticed that on the Mikveh preparation paper it is written that one should use unwaxed dental floss. I always use waxed, since I can clean my teeth much better with it, but was confused, so I asked the attendant. She did not know but gave me the unwaxed one which everyone uses there. With it I could not clean my teeth very well, but I used it nevertheless since it looked more kosher. Is waxed floss considered a chatzitza? And what about the fact that i cannot clean my teeth with it so well?

Answer

Some people feel that the wax can get stuck between the teeth. However, if your experience is that the wax does not get caught and you can do a better job cleaning your teeth with the waxed floss, you should continue to use it.
