If there is risk to a mother’s life, and other forms of contraception are not possible, sterilization would be
permitted. Tubal ligation is generally the first choice. Salpingectomy could be permitted if the physician believes it is needed in that particular case. However, in general there is a halachic preference to minimize the amount of destruction to the reproductive organs.
