Lost hefsek taharah
November 21, 2004

Question

I did a Hefsek Tahara this past Friday afternoon and examined the bedika cloth immediately afterwards, then put the cloth away to examine by daylight yesterday (Shabbat). The cloth accidentally got discarded before I could examine it by daylight.

I never stopped counting my clean days, nor ever intended to not go to the mikva on this upcoming Friday night.

Do I go to the mikva on Friday as planned, or do I move it onto the next night (Saturday night) or need to make an entirely new Hefsek Tahara and start counting again?

Answer

In the event that a bedikah cloth is lost, halacha gives credence to the woman's memory of the color, whether the result is lenient or stringent. If your examination on Friday night gave every indication of being a valid hefsek taharah, then we can rely on it and you may immerse on Friday as planned.

If your examination was questionable, please get back in touch with us with further details.
