Is perfume a chatzitzah?

Question

Is perfume a chatzitza? Can a woman put on perfume erev Shabbat when she will be going to the Mikvah Friday night?

Answer

Perfume is not considered a chatzitzah, since women desire for it to be there. In addition, perfumes are generally alcohol-based and evaporate, so they do not present a substantial barrier. Thus a woman may apply perfume before Shabbat even when going to the mikveh that night.
