Blood from a cut in clean days
April 24, 2026

Question

Hi, I am supposed to go to mikvah tonight. Last night, while trimming, I nicked myself in the vaginal area and made myself bleed. I could see exactly where the blood was coming from externally. This morning I woke up with a large red stain in my white underwear. I am sure it came from this cut, as I have had no spotting or staining for the last 6 days.

After I found the stain, I did my day 7 morning bedika. The middle and wet part of the cloth is all clean, but there is blood more towards the edge as it touched the area that I cut outside. Is this problematic since it's on a bedika even though I know it is dam makkah??

Very worried I'll have to start counting again. What should I do if it continues to bleed slightly? It's quite a superficial cut but hasn't completely stopped bleeding. Thank you so much!

Answer

Thank you for reaching out to us.

If you saw that you had a cut in the vaginal area that was bleeding and you are confident that it accounts for your stain, then the stain on your underwear does not affect your clean days.

The bedikah you describe also does not affect the validity of your clean days, because the central part of the cloth was clean and you can clearly distinguish the blood on the edge as coming from a cut. In this case, you should omit today's afternoon bedikah

If something like this happens again, it could be helpful to use a mirror to guide your bedikah, so you don't further irritate the cut.

If you find any bleeding after relations, you can also attribute that to the cut if it is consistent with what you've been seeing there.
