Blood on toilet paper after Pap smear
16/01/2023

Question

I got a pap smear today and saw blood on my (white) toilet paper afterwards. I didn’t wait between wiping and looking (never got in the habit…). Is this an issue?

Answer

Any bleeding or spotting found within 24 hours of a Pap smear may be disregarded and is considered dam makkah (from a wound).
You should take precautions against any further staining by wearing colored underwear and waiting at least a few seconds after urinating before wiping. See our articles on stains and toilet paper for more details.
