Checking for bleeding from external cut
October 22, 2025

Question

On the fourth day of shiva nekiim I was shaving some pubic hair when I began to bleed, most probably from a cut while shaving. In order to make sure the blood was really from a cut, I used a mirror to check myself. I wanted to know — was it necessary to check myself, or could I have assumed that it was from a cut? Or should I have called a Rav to be checked by a bodeket?

Answer

When it is not completely obvious, a woman should confirm that bleeding from the vaginal area is from a cut, as by performing a visual inspection, using mirrors as necessary. There is no need to call a rav or bodeket when you can see blood emerging from a cut.
