Forgot to remove earring before mikveh
August 24, 2023

Question

I removed my earrings for mikvah and forgot to remove a tiny hoop on one ear. What can I do?

Answer

Thank you for reaching out to us.
An earring does not cover much of the body, and women are often happy to keep earrings in place. Assuming that the earring was not fastened especially tightly in a way that would block water from reaching part of the ear, your immersion is considered valid after the fact.
Even if the earring was fastened more tightly, there may be grounds to count the immersion as valid if you generally do not remove the earring. If it was tightly fastened against the ear lobe or cartilage, please get back to us with details about it and how regularly you wear and remove it.
Please be in touch with any further questions.
