Hair treatment before mikveh
June 26, 2024

Question

Hello, is it OK to get a hair treatment (e.g., keratin, pro–addiction) a few days before going to the mikvah?

Answer

Thank you for reaching out to us.
Neither of these treatments interferes with mikveh immersion.
These products do not create a separate coating on the hair that would block water. Rather they both are absorbed into the hair, working on the cellular level to strengthen hair and hair bonds. This is not considered a chatzitzah.
However, women are often advised to wait at least three days following treatment before getting the hair wet, so we recommend clarifying that issue to ensure that there will be enough time between treatment and mikveh.
