Irritation from moch
December 20, 2006

Question

I am at my wit's end and hope that you can help me. I am 53 years old and am going through menopause. I have not been able to get to the mikveh after my last period. Doing a hefsek is no problem, but the moch is very uncomfortable and always comes out with a bit of blood. This has been going on for about 6 weeks. I tried a moch last night (painful), and this morning the discomfort from the moch is still there. I suspect that there is some dryness and the moch is causing irritation. Is there any chance that I can skip the moch and do fewer bedikahs before I go to the mikveh? I want to do the right thing. Thank you so much for your help.

Answer

In a case such as yours, where the moch dachuk itself causes irritation that may lead to bleeding, a woman may omit the moch dachuk.

If omitting the moch dachuk is not sufficient to help you get to the mikveh, please contact us again about the possibility of further reducing the number of bedikot you are performing.
