Keeping track of uprooted veset kavua
November 19, 2023

Question

I am familiar with establishing and uprooting kavuas. My question is do you keep track of your last established kavua for chodesh AND haflaga (so the next time you get your period on either of those it gets reinstated), or just whichever was established later? I guess there are times where both can be happening at the same time, but I guess I’d cross that bridge if it happens.

Answer

Once you have a established a new veset kavua, your previous veset kavua is completely uprooted and you no longer need to keep track of it. This is true even if they were different types of veset (e.g., a veset hachodesh and a veset haflagah). The halacha that a veset kavua can be reestablished if you bleed on that date or in that pattern only one time applies only to a woman’s most recent veset kavua.
