Long cycles since wedding

Question

I really appreciate the privacy provided by this site and the spot-on answers from the yoatzot. I was wondering if you have information, or if you could direct me to information regarding anovulation? Our Rav feels that I may have this condition as my cycles have been 43 and 53 days long since my marriage six months ago. I am of average weight, have no abnormal body hair and do not have staining issues typical of PCOS, but is it possible I have this condition? If I go on Clomid, what are the side effects? Can it cause staining like other hormonal meds?

Answer

Mazal tov on your recent marriage!

It is still possible that you are ovulating. Ovulation timing is typically 12-16 days prior to the onset of menstrual bleeding.

There are many possible causes for longer cycles, Therefore, we recommend consulting with your physician to determine when or if you are ovulating. Your doctor can check for PCOS (a possibility) as well as other possible causes, and discuss options for treatment and potential side effects.

You may also find it helpful to consult a Yoetzet Halacha Fertility Counselor. (This is a free service, details here.)

Please feel free to get back to us with any further questions.
